How do managers motivate their staff?
Aquinas College asked if we could source somebody who could talk with a group of Upper Sixth students, who were studying Applied Business, for an element of their course called Managing People.
The request was for someone to share their practical experience of managing groups of staff and specifically talking about how to keep people motivated, how to manage absence levels.
Michelle Hay, who runs her own locally based health & safety training company, Michelle Hay Training, offered to share the experience she has gained working across a range of different industry sectors.
The sessions with different groups were really well received, being both informative and interactive, giving the students scenarios to think about and respond to.
The college were delighted with how the sessions went. Tutor Carol Mayall said “Michelle’s talk was extremely relevant to the topics we have covered in the curriculum and was accentuated with real life examples. She was so full of enthusiasm and related so well to the students. She had many interesting stories based on her many years of experience, which brought the subject to life.”
Presentations such as these, which give real, practical insight into the world of work, can be a really time effective way for business people to engage in the Gander programme, while offering valuable support to our college partners and their students.
